ATES, the main union representing security personnel at Madrid-Barajas International Airport (MAD), has announced a series of strikes starting this Friday, July 14. The strikes will occur over the next three weekends, including Mondays - i.e. July 14-17, July 21-24, and July 28-31 - during which time security personnel will stop working during the following periods:

  • 05:30 to 06:30 (local time)
  • 10:30 to 11:30
  • 14:00 to 15:00
  • 19:00 to 20:00

Delays and long queues are expected as the strike is currently set to involve some 1000 employees protesting a lack of training as well as lack of rotation of trained personnel operating at security scanners.

Travelers are advised to allow extra time for security checks as well as contact their airlines for further details.
