TIMEFRAME expected from 7/5/2017, 12:00 AM until 7/8/2017, 11:59 PM (Europe/Stockholm). COUNTRY/REGION Stockholm

On Wednesday, July 5, around 50 waste collectors employed by Reno Norden started an unannounced strike in Stockholm. The action, which was not backed by unions, is ongoing as of Friday, July 7. According to media reports, around 10,000 households have been impacted by the strike. According to union representatives, talks between the company and the workers on Thursday, July 6, were not successful. Following the failed talks, the Swedish Transport Workers’ Union (Transport) erroneously said that the workers had been fired. However, the CEO of Reno Norden said that none of the employees have been let go, but if they continue to illegally strike then they are at greater risk of being fired. It is unclear when normal services will resume.

According to media reports, the workers are striking against salary changes that are planned to come into effect in October 2017. They claim that they will be paid less for doing more work under the new system.

Individuals in Stockholm are advised to monitor the situation.
