Four police officers have been hospitalized and two others less seriously injured following protests in London over police brutality that started late Sunday night, June 25, and ended early Monday morning. Fires were started and bricks thrown at police as protesters gathered in east London to protest the death of a 25-year-old man, allegedly from injuries obtained during a police stop. Four protesters were arrested.
Further protests are possible.
Activists claim that 25-year-old Edir Frederico Da Costa's neck was broken during a police stop. He died six days later, on June 21. The Independent Police Complaints Commission reported that a preliminary investigation did not indicate spinal injuries caused by police.
Individuals in London are advised to avoid all demonstrations as a precaution.
