On Sunday, June 25, at least 146 people were killed near Bahawalpur when an over-turned oil tanker exploded as locals were collecting fuel from the crashed tanker. According to local witnesses, the tanker had crashed due to a burst tire. A local doctor stated that over 100 people were transported to a local hospital with more than 80 percent burns. The driver of the crash survived the incident and is being held in custody.
Travel disruptions are possible due to the wreckage caused by the explosion.
Analysts stated that it is not unusual that locals attempted to collect fuel from the tanker given the poverty and fuel shortages in Bahawalpur.
Individuals are advised to account for potential travel disruptions near Bahawalpur and to take precaution when traveling by road in India.
