TIMEFRAME expected from 6/16/2017, 12:00 AM until 6/18/2017, 11:59 PM (America/Jamaica). COUNTRY/REGION Jamaica

The Jamaican Constabulary Force (JCF) has announced a significant increase in the number of murders reported in the country since the beginning of 2017. A record number of 628 homicides have been recorded, prompting Jamaican authorities to deploy additional security officers to crime hotspots. The JCF has also announced that it will be stepping up its enforcement of anti-gun and gang legislation.

Organized crime groups are prevalent and extremely active in Jamaica. Although most criminal activity targets Jamaicans, foreign residents and travelers are also frequently impacted by violence.

Individuals present in Jamaica are advised to remain vigilant and take basic security precautions (e.g. keep signs of wealth concealed, drive with doors locked and windows rolled up, etc.).
