A small explosion was reported at the British police headquarters at the Dhekelia Garrison, located in the southeast of the island, before dawn on Tuesday, June 13. A motorcyclist left an explosive device at the entrance of the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia around 03:00 (local time). One policeman was injured slightly and minor damages were reported. According to a British spokesman, the explosion is being treated as a criminal case and not an act of terrorism; an investigation is ongoing.


The United Kingdom currently has two military bases in Cyprus, which was a British colony until 1960.
