Gardaí (police) officials announced that over five kg (11 lbs) of plastic explosives were discovered in a taxi during a security operation in Dublin on Friday, June 2. According to the Gardaí, the vehicle was stopped on Spring Garden Street in Ballybough at approximately 18:00 (local time). A detonator and other military items were recovered in the taxi. Security forces detained two people during the operation.


According to the authorities, the stop was part of an operation targeting the New IRA dissident group. Detectives said that they believe the explosives were meant to be used for attacks in Northern Ireland.


Individuals in Dublin are advised to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the relevant authorities.
