TIMEFRAME expected from 6/1/2017, 11:00 PM until 6/3/2017, 11:59 PM (Asia/Manila). COUNTRY/REGION Metro Manila

The National Police Chief of the Philippines, Ronald Dela Rosa, has announced that a gunman who robbed the Resorts World Manila casino at approximately 01:30 (local time) on June 2, has been killed. Dela Rosa stated that although the man is not believed to have intentionally fired at guests, terrorism could not be ruled out as a motive. At least thirty people were injured after jumping from windows, and rushing out of the building in an effort to escape the shooter, who was allegedly of Caucasian ethnicity.

Operations are expected to resume at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), and lockdown in the city is likely to be lifted in the coming hours, although security is still expected to be tight as the investigation continues.

Officials at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila announced that all terminals were on lockdown at approximately 03:35 June 2 due to the security situation at the Resorts World Manila. Gunfire and explosions were reported at Resorts World Manila at around 01:30. Witnesses said that at least one gunman opened fire on gambling machines and video screens, although reports indicate that he was not firing at guests. The man then ransacked a room, stealing thousands of dollars worth of gaming chips.

The resort is popular among international tourists and features a number of hotels and bars, as well as a casino, shopping center, and cinema. MNL is located about 1.6 km (1 mi) from Resorts World Manila.

Individuals in Metro Manila are advised to monitor the situation and to avoid the area.

Travelers flying to, from, or through MNL are advised to confirm their flights and to contact their airlines for more information.
