A commuter train, “R2 Sur,” coming from the village of Saint Vincenç de Calders, in the province of Tarragona, crashed into a railway buffer in Francia Station, located in the center of Barcelona, at 7:30 (local time). Officials say the train failed to break as it was entering the station. At least 48 people have been injured, 18 of which are in serious condition and have been taken to hospital.
All roads surrounding the train station have been temporarily closed to provide access for the six emergency service units currently deployed. Similarly, although trains are still operating at Francia Station, adjacent platforms to the accident have been shut down. Traffic disruptions and delays may occur.
Individuals are advised to check their travel plans and account for potential travel disruptions.
