Tougher penalties for traffic violations come into effect October 24; foreigners may risk deportation for violations

Kuwaiti authorities announced tougher traffic penalties for drivers on Tuesday, October 24. Authorities will now impound vehicles for two months for those caught driving without seat belts, parking on sidewalks or in no-parking areas, and using a mobile phone while driving. According to media reports, Kuwaiti nationals will be cited for breaking traffic rules and will have their vehicles impounded, while foreigners may deported.


The government of Kuwait is attempting to reduce the high level of traffic accidents and to ensure drivers respect traffic laws.


Individuals in Kuwait are advised to respect traffic laws at all times.
