Hundreds of journalists protested on Tuesday, November 7, in the Kaloum business district of the capital Conakry to denounce police violence against journalists during a rally held on October 31 as well as the alleged indifference of the Communication High Authority (HAC). Further protests are possible in the coming weeks.
On October 31, police forces clashed with journalists demonstrating in support of the director of the private radio and television group Gangan, currently being held in custody in relation to false news stories circulated by his press group which alleged that President Alpha Condé had died.
Individuals in Guinea are advised to remain vigilant and avoid all demonstrations.
