Authorities have warned that Storm Caroline is expected to affect parts of the United Kingdom from Wednesday, December 6, through Saturday, December 9. The storm is forecast to bring gusts of up to 128 km/h (80 mph) along with heavy rain to Northern and Western Isles of Scotland on December 6-7. Additionally, between 2-5 cm (0.7-2 in) of snow are forecast to fall in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and western England on Friday, December 8. Temperatures are also forecast to fall as low as -16°C (3.2°F). Ice warnings are in effect for potentially impacted areas through 18:00 (local time) on Saturday, December 9.
Authorities have warned that the storm could bring storm surge and potential flooding to coastal areas. Road, rail, air, and ferry services may all be affected by the storm.
Individuals in the United Kingdom are advised to follow local weather forecasts, to confirm travel reservations, and to take particular care if traveling in snowy or icy conditions. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
