Snowstorms have isolated the capital city of Astana and impacted transportation networks across the country as of Thursday, January 11. Blizzard conditions forced Nursultan Nazarbaev International Airport (TSE), which serves the capital, to suspend operations and all highways and roads leading into the city have also been closed due to the snow. Aset Isekeshev, the mayor of Astana, announced a state of emergency on Thursday. According to Qalmukhanbet Qasymov, the Interior Minister, all roads in the Aqmola, Qaraghandy, Pavlodar, and Qyzyl-Orda regions have been closed. Expect significant transportation disruptions in the affected areas.
Individuals in affected areas are advised to follow local weather reports and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities, including warnings to stay off roads.
Travelers flying to, from, or through TSE are advised to confirm their reservations and contact their airline for additional information.
