Police officials announced on Thursday, March 8, that a 23-year-old man admitted to stabbing four people in the Leopoldstadt neighborhood the night before. The attacker has been identified as an Afghan national, and officials have specified that the suspect claimed that the incident was not politically motivated. According to the police, the man said that he carried out the stabbings because he “was in a bad, aggressive mood.” Officials are still investigating the incident, but the situation has returned to normal in Leopoldstadt.

At approximately 19:45 (local time) on Wednesday, March 7, a knife-wielding man stabbed three pedestrians in Leopoldstadt, near the entrance to the Nestroyplatz metro station. Following the attack, a fourth person was also stabbed near Praterstern. All four victims are being treated for their wounds.
