Mali: Four Malian soldiers killed in Mopti region March 9

Mali News Alert

Malian military officials confirm four soldiers killed after their vehicle hit a mine in Dialloube (Mopti region) on March 9

TIMEFRAME expected from 3/12/2018, 12:00 AM until 3/19/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Bamako). COUNTRY/REGION Mopti

A Malian military vehicle hit a landmine in the central Mopti region on Friday, March 9. According to military officials, the blast killed four soldiers and wounded two more. The soldiers were traveling through Dialloube when they hit the mine.

Due to the presence of various armed groups, Mali's northern and central regions remain unstable despite a French-led intervention launched in 2013 that drove many extremists from their strongholds. France maintains approximately 4000 troops stationed throughout the Sahel, in addition to the presence of local military troops.

The security environment in Mali remains complex, particularly in the north and central regions. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
