As of Monday, April 16, firefighters are still battling a large bushfire raging near the southwestern suburbs of the capital Sydney. So far, no houses have been damaged and no injuries have been reported. The fire started on Saturday afternoon amid warm autumn weather and strong winds; authorities have reportedly not ruled out criminal arson. The blaze has burnt around 2500 hectares of land so far. Additionally, some locals were evacuated from their homes in Menai and Barden Ridge.

Conditions have improved as of Monday as winds have eased. However, the fire remains not contained as of Monday morning (local time).
