A sandstorm has engulfed Riyadh and surrounding areas on Monday, April 23, prompting the Saudi General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection to issue a warning regarding reducing visibility. The towns and cities of Al-Kharj, Dawadmi, Al-Ghat, Al-Aflaj, and adjacent areas have also been included in the warning. Authorities have cautioned drivers to exercise increased caution on roads. Lingering transportation disruptions are possible in Riyadh and in the abovementioned areas in the coming hours. Although significant flight disruptions have not been reported, delays and cancelations remain possible at area airports, including at King Khalid International Airport (RUH).
Individuals in or planning travel to Saudi Arabia are advised to monitor weather reports, confirm travel reservations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities. Contact your airline for more information regarding potential flight disruptions.
