An ongoing strike in the Kathmandu Valley has provoked traffic and transportation disruptions as of Friday, May 4. Despite a government threat of sanctions, protesters have blocked roads in the capital - allowing no public vehicles (i.e. buses, taxis) to pass except those carrying essential goods.
Transport committees are protesting against a government crackdown on unions.
Individuals present in Kathmandu are advised to limit travel as much as possible. In the event of necessary travel, exercise caution and maintain a safe distance from all protests. Do not attempt to cross any barricades erected by protesters. Follow all instructions as issued by authorities.
