On Tuesday, May 29, two police officers were shot and killed around 10:30 (local time) in the city-center of Liège, near Augustin Street and Avroy Boulevard. The assailant was reportedly killed by police after he took a woman hostage at the Waha High School. Some reports indicate that a bystander was also killed and two other officers were injured in the shooting attack. The incident appears to potentially be terrorist in nature but authorities have not yet made any official statement. A heightened security presence along with traffic disruptions are expected in the area in the coming hours.
