Civil society groups have called for marches to take place on Wednesday, August 1, in at least 17 cities nationwide. Demonstrators will also deliver a list of 24 demands to the government to fight gender-based violence. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are likely in the vicinity of any gatherings. Individuals throughout South Africa are advised to monitor developments to the situation, plan alternative routes, avoid all demonstrations and protests due to the risk of violence, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
