A strike by Gautrain workers in Gauteng province continued to strike for a second week on Monday, August 6. Members of the United National Transport Union (Untu) decided to maintain the work stoppage after talks failed with the Bombela Operating Company. Commuter rail service disruptions are expected along the Gautrain network in the coming days. Increased road congestion is also likely in and around cities in Gauteng province.
An indefinite strike was launched by Gautrain workers on July 31 to demand an increase in salaries and allowances. The Gautrain commuter rail network links Johannesburg, Pretoria, Ekhuruleni, and O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB).
Travelers are advised to confirm rail timetables and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
