At least eight people died in Jajarkot district in the aftermath of heavy downpours and an associated landslide on Sunday, August 5. Security agencies have launched rescue operations in this remote region, located 350 km (215 mi) west of the capital Kathmandu. Further rainfall is forecast for the coming hours and days and the authorities have warned that the risk for landslides remains high. Authorities have also issued flood alert messages for different regions of the country, urging the local population and visitors to remain vigilant.
Since the beginning of the annual monsoon season, several districts have been seriously impacted by heavy rain. Around 70 people have already been killed and hundreds displaced due to landslides triggered by continuous torrential rainfall.
Individuals in Nepal are advised adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
