A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck approximately 22 km (14 mi) southwest of Irapa (Sucre state) at 17:31 (local time) on Tuesday, August 21. Buildings were reportedly evacuated in Caracas due to the shaking. Further details, including potential casualties and material damages, are still emerging. Aftershocks are possible in the area in the coming hours and days.
