Authorities prepare for large crowds celebrating the Krishna Janmashtami festivities on Sunday, September 2, and Monday, September 3, across the country. Large numbers of Hindu adherents will attend festival events on Monday evening that will last until the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 4. Heavy traffic and an increased security presence is expected throughout the country.

Krishna Janmashtami, also called Gokulashtami, is the annual Hindu celebration of the birth of Krishna. This year, Janmashtami begins on Sunday evening and lasts until the early morning hours of September 4, with main festivities being held on Monday evening.
