The leader of the Vetvendosje opposition movement has called for a protest to be held in the capital Pristina on Saturday, September 29. Participants will gather in the city center, near the Skanderbeg Statue, and march towards the National Library building. A heightened security presence as well as localized traffic disruptions are expected.
The protest has been called to denounce a recent statement made by President Hashim Thaci on September 18, suggesting a land swap deal with Serbia as a means to solve ongoing disputes between the two countries.
Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2006; however, the latter does not recognize the country, still considered under Serbian sovereignty.
Individuals in Pristina are advised to monitor the situation, plan alternative travel routes, and avoid the demonstration due to the potential for violence.
