The Hindu festival of Dashain will be celebrated throughout Nepal October 10-24. Some 3 million locals are expected to leave the Kathmandu Valley to return to their native villages, which is expected to cause high demand for transportation (buses, flights, etc.). Furthermore, authorities have announced they will deploy over 3000 extra security forces throughout the capital Kathmandu during Dashain, when crime levels tend to increase due to the absence of residents. Additional police will in particular be stationed around banks, places of worship, hotels, government buildings, and along major roads.
Furthermore, government offices, embassies, banks, and many businesses will be closed during the celebrations.
Dashain is the longest and most widely celebrated festival in Nepal. Each year, severe transportation disruptions are observed and security is heightened nationwide for the duration of the festival.
Individuals should anticipate transportation delays throughout Nepal, as well as limited availability on domestic airlines due to high demand.
