An indefinite strike launched by thousands of hotel workers in Chicago (Illinois) on Friday, September 7, continues as of Saturday, October 6. Hotel workers in San Fransisco, San Jose, and Oakland (California), as well as workers in Boston (Massachusetts), have reportedly joined the strike. Although affected hotels remain operational, some disruptions have been reported, including closed restaurants, long lines at check-in, and unmade rooms. Continuing demonstrations are possible in the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are expected near all demonstration sites.
Workers are demanding wage increases and year-round health insurance.
Individuals present in affected areas are advised to avoid demonstrations as a precaution and allow for additional time to reach their destinations during the strikes.
