Fires were reported on two passenger trains at Germiston station (Gauteng province) on Tuesday, October 16, halting rail transportation at the station and resulting in injuries. Authorities suspect that the trains were intentionally set on fire. Though the flames have been extinguished, residual rail transportation disruptions are possible over the coming hours.


This is likely the fourth incident of arson targeting South African train cars since September 21. Commuters are known to set train cars on fire to protest rail transportation delays.
