South Korea: Anti-government protest in Seoul December 1

South Korea Alerte de sécurité

Massive anti-government protest to be held in Seoul on December 1; related disruptions expected

TIMEFRAME expected from 27/11/2018, 12h00 until 1/12/2018, 11h59 (Asia/Seoul). COUNTRY/REGION Seoul

A coalition of civil society groups intends to hold a massive anti-government protest in the capital Seoul on Saturday, December 1, outside the National Assembly complex. Some 45,000 supporters are expected to take part in the demonstration, called to protest President Moon Jae-in’s perceived anti-labor policies as well as corruption among the country’s elite. Associated traffic disruptions and an increased security presence are expected.

On November 21, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions staged a nationwide general strike and protests, in which tens of thousands of people participated. The social action was also called over the government’s labor policies in relation to working hours viewed as being unfair to workers.

As a precautionary measure, individuals present in South Korea are advised to stay away from public gatherings and rallies and plan journeys accounting for traffic disruptions.
