Violent protests broke out at the Bouchabka border crossing point located near the Algerian city of Tébessa on Sunday, December 17. According to local sources, Tunisian demonstrators threw rocks at Algerian border guards to protest the arrests of two Tunisian nationals attempting to cross the border without proper identification earlier that day. Reports indicate that one Algerian border guard was wounded in the protest. Officials temporarily closed the Bouchabka border crossing on Monday, leading to transportation disruptions in the area. Further protests and associated disruptions are possible in the area over the near term.  


Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
