The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has called for a nationwide strike on Friday, December 21, while the United Banking Forum of Banks' Union (UFBU), has threatened to strike on Wednesday, December 26, to call for increased wages and to denounce a proposed bank merger. According to local reports, banks will remain closed from December 21-23 and 25-26 nationwide due to the work-stoppages and scheduled holidays. Organizers claim more than 300,000 workers are expected to participate in the strike. Related street protests are also possible.
Individuals in India are advised to anticipate potential disruptions in cash supply, conduct banking transactions ahead of the strike, and avoid all protests as a precaution.
