The United States Geological Survey observed an underwater earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale roughly 54 km (33 mi) south-southwest of Tanaga Volcano in the Aleutian Islands (Alaska) at 08:47 (local time) on Saturday, January 5. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 19 km (11 mi) and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not issued any alert as of 08:57. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days. 


Individuals in western Alaska are advised to monitor the situation and adhere to any advice or instructions issued by the local authorities.
