Pawel Adamowicz, the mayor of Gdańsk, was stabbed by an unidentified assailant during a charity event in the city on Sunday, January 13. Adamowicz was attending the “Light of Heaven” event when the attacker rushed on stage and stabbed him in front of the crowd of attendees. Private security personnel detained the man before handing him over to the police. According to initial reports, Adamowicz is in critical condition and is being treated at a hospital. The motive for the attack remains unclear as of Sunday evening (local time). Details are still emerging.
