South Korea: Emergency pollution measures in place January 14-15

South Korea Alerte de sécurité

Ministry of Environment enforces emergency measures to curb pollution January 14-15; ultrafine particulate levels at 500 percent recommended levels

TIMEFRAME expected from 14/1/2019, 12h00 until 15/1/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Seoul). COUNTRY/REGION South Korea

The Ministry of Environment enacted emergency measures to curb the effects of high pollution in Seoul and other cities on Monday, January 14, and Tuesday, January 15. Regulations include reduced power plant output, banning old diesel vehicles within city limits, closure of parking lots, and prohibiting half of all public official vehicles until measures are suspended. The government also urged residents to wear masks and limit outdoor activities. Pollution, particularly ultrafine particulate matter, is at "very unhealthy" levels and approximately 500 percent of the World Health Organization recommended levels.

Individuals in South Korea, particularly Seoul, are advised to monitor updates to the situation, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, and refrain from strenuous outdoor activity. Children and those with respiratory illnesses should exercise additional precautions. Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if experiencing breathing difficulties or other health concerns.
