Event

A Women's March is set to take place in several cities nationwide, with the main event scheduled in Washington, DC, on Saturday, January 19. Organizers in the capital have announced a gathering point at Freedom Plaza at 10:00 (local time), followed by a march from the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue NW and 13th Street NW, and finally a rally at Freedom Plaza from 13:00 to 16:00. Other demonstrations are expected at the National Mall and Lincoln Memorial between 10:00 and 16:00.

In New York City (New York), a demonstration is set to take place at Columbus Circle at 11:00, while an associated rally is planned at Foley Square from 11:00 to 13:30. 

Additional demonstrations are expected in other major cities, including Chicago (Illinois), Seattle (Washington), and Oakland (California), among others. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected along march routes. 

Context

Demonstrations in major cities across the world are being organized to coincide with the two-year anniversary of the 2017 Women's Marches, during which tens of thousands of people marched in support of women's rights and other progressive causes. The January 21, 2017, marches were organized as a response to the election of US President Donald Trump.
