Saudi Arabia: At least two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen January 21

Saudi Arabia Alerte de sécurité

Houthi forces fire at least two ballistic missiles into southern Saudi Arabia from Yemen on January 21

TIMEFRAME expected from 22/1/2019, 12h00 until 31/1/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Riyadh). COUNTRY/REGION Najran, Aseer province

Houthi militants in Yemen reportedly fired at least two missiles into Najran and Asir provinces on Monday, January 21. According to local sources, the projectiles targeted Saudi military bases. As of Tuesday, January 22, it remains unclear if the missile strikes resulted in any damage or casualties. Further such attacks targeting southern Saudi Arabia are possible in the near term.

Reports estimate that Houthi militants have fired over 200 missiles at Saudi Arabia since 2015, when Saudi Arabia began backing the Yemeni government against Houthi separatists in the Yemeni Civil War.

Southern Saudi Arabia is a frequent target of Houthi missile attacks, and Riyadh has also seen several missile attacks in the last several months; however, they rarely result in many damages or casualties. Nevertheless, on September 5, shrapnel from an intercepted missile wounded at least 37 people in Najran.

In the event of a missile attack, individuals in Saudi Arabia are advised to seek shelter, monitor developments to the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities or their home governments.
