Ruling APC and opposition PDP parties to hold political rallies in Abuja on February 13; avoid all gatherings

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/2/2019, 12h00 until 13/2/2019, 11h59 (Africa/Lagos). COUNTRY/REGION Abuja

The opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), led by presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has announced it will be holding a campaign rally at the Old Parade Ground stadium in the Garki district of Abuja on Wednesday, February 13. The rally, initially set to take place on Saturday, February 9, was postponed due to difficulties in obtaining a permit. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party is also expected to hold a rally in Abuja on February 13. The event will be organized at the National Stadium. A heightened security presence and significant transportation disruptions are to be expected near the rallies. Clashes between rally participants, opposition supporters, and security forces cannot be ruled out.

The presidential election in Nigeria is set to take place on February 16. The main presidential contenders are incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Individuals in Abuja are advised to monitor the situation and avoid all demonstrations and large public gatherings due to the risk of violence.
