As of Wednesday, February 13, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported an end to illnesses related to the multi-state E. coli O157:H7 outbreak that began in Fall 2018. According to the health officials, the outbreak has been linked to romaine lettuce grown in California. The CDC indicated it will continue to investigate the source of the E. coli outbreak.
Individuals usually develop symptoms of E. coli two to eight days after consuming the contaminated food. Symptoms include diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, and vomiting. Most people recover within one week of contracting E. coli but some cases can become severe or life-threatening.
