The opposition Democratic Party of Albania is planning to stage a protest in front of parliament in Tirana at 10:00 (local time) on Thursday, February 21, to denounce perceived corruption and inadequate economic development. A significant police presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near the protest site - notably due to traffic restrictions on Boulevard Zhan d'Ark and George W. Bush Street.
Similar protests are possible in Tirana over the near term. Associated clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
Clashes between protesters and police were reported during a related demonstration in Tirana on February 16, with demonstrators throwing Molotov cocktails and attempting to storm the building that houses the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama (Kryeministria). At least 15 people were wounded.
Individuals in Tirana are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
