The Mouvement Martin Luther King (MMLK) civil society group has called for a demonstration in Lomé on Saturday, February 23, to demand the CFA franc be replaced by another currency. Protesters are expected to gather at the Ministry of Commerce and march towards the French Embassy. A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected. Clashes between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Togo, particularly those in Lomé, are advised to avoid all public gatherings (especially political events) due to the risk of violence, monitor the situation, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
