The opposition Democratic Party of Albania has organized a protest in front of the parliament building in Tirana from 17:00 (local time) on Tuesday, February 26. Demonstrators have gathered to denounce the ruling party's decision to reschedule a contested plenary session of parliament from Thursday, February 28, to Tuesday, February 26. A significant police presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be expected near the protest site.
Similar protests are possible in Tirana over the near term. Associated clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.
Clashes between protesters and police were reported during a related demonstration in Tirana on February 16, with demonstrators throwing Molotov cocktails and attempting to storm the building that houses the office of Prime Minister Edi Rama (Kryeministria). At least 15 people were wounded. Demonstrations also took place outside parliament on February 21.
Individuals in Tirana are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
