Cape Town’s Metrorail continues to experience service disruptions on its Central and Cape Flats lines as of the morning (local time) of Wednesday, February 27. Rail authorities shutdown platform 12-16 at Cape Town Station on Tuesday, February 26, after two carriages of a passenger train derailed at approximately 09:00. Officials confirmed two minor injuries from the accident. According to Metrorail, only one train is allowed to travel between Chris Hani/Kapteinsklip/Bellville via Lavistown to and from Cape Town every hour. Travelers on the Cape Flats line are experiencing 30 to 40-minute delays. It is unclear when normal operations will resume.

Potentially affected travelers are advised to monitor developments to the situation, confirm train schedules, allow for extra time to reach their destinations, and seek alternative means of transportation if necessary.
