The Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) called for supporters to hold a nationwide bandh (general strike) on Thursday, March 14. CPN leaders ordered the bandh after the government banned the party’s activities on Tuesday, March 12, for allegedly carrying out criminal activities in the country. The group has been accused of conducting a series of recent improvised explosive device (IED) attacks targeting infrastructure projects in recent months. Transportation and commercial disruptions are possible throughout Nepal, including in Kathmandu, during the strike.
Individuals in Nepal are advised to monitor the situation, anticipate transportation disruptions, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
