Air traffic controllers seeking an improved pay deal began a work-to-rule on Monday, April 1, at airports in Scotland operated by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL). The air traffic controllers also announced a strike scheduled for Friday, April 26, and that they would not work any overtime until August 31. Seven of the 11 airports operated by HIAL will be closed for 24 hours during the anticipated strike, including Benbecula (BEB), Dundee (DND), Inverness (INV), Kirkwall (KOI), Stornoway (SYY), Sumburgh (LSI), and Wick John O'Groats (WIC). A meeting is set to take place on Tuesday, April 9, in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
Related flight disruptions (e.g. delays and cancelations) are possible at HIAL airports for the duration of the industrial action.
Individuals flying via the abovementioned airports in Scotland are advised to monitor the situation, confirm the status of their flights, and anticipate delays and cancelations.
