Supporters of the right-wing Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) staged a demonstration in Kathmandu on Monday, April 8, demanding that Nepal be declared a Hindu state. Participants reportedly gathered at Ratna Park and moved to the Putalisadak area (near the Singha Durbar government complex), where they were forcibly dispersed by police-fired tear gas for obstructing traffic; at least 12 people were wounded in the clashes.
Similar demonstrations and clashes are possible in Kathmandu over the near term.
Individuals in Nepal are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
