The National Coordination of Cevital Workers' Support Committees called for a protest march in Béjaïa (Béjaïa province) on Thursday, May 2, to demand the release of their president. The march is set to begin at 13:00 (local time) from the Cevital factory and proceed to the court of Béjaïa. Localized transportation and business disruptions are expected along the protest route and a heightened security presence is anticipated. Similar protests in Béjaïa and other cities are also possible in the coming weeks.
Issad Rebrab, a prominent businessman and founder of the conglomerate Cevital, was imprisoned on April 22 for misappropriation of public funds.
Individuals in Béjaïa are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public gatherings as a precaution, and anticipate localized business and transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence.
