Another election-related demonstration is expected to take place in Jakarta on the afternoon (local time) of Friday, May 10, near the General Elections Commission (KPU) building on Jalan Imam Bonjol. Local sources reported that over 1000 police officers have been deployed into the area, along with armored vehicles. Some areas have also reportedly been blocked off with concertina wire. Additional security personnel may be sent to the area in the coming hours. Localized traffic disruptions are also anticipated in the area. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Individuals in Jakarta are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate a heightened security presence and localized business and transportation disruptions near any demonstrations.
