The annual Solidarity March during the 2019 Moldova Pride Festival will take place on Sunday, May 19, in the capital Chișinău. Hundreds of supporters of the LGBTI community are expected to participate in the march, which will start at 12:00 (local time) at the intersection of București and Ismail streets. Police officials have announced that additional security personnel will be deployed to maintain public order and organize road traffic during the event. Counter-protests are possible and clashes between rival groups and security forces cannot be ruled out. Traffic disruptions are also anticipated along the march route.
The Moldova Pride Festival is held annually by the GENDERDOC-M organization and other LGBT groups to promote LGBT rights and address issues facing the community. Isolated cases of violence have occurred during previous marches between counter-protesters and supporters.
Individuals in Chișinău are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
