Syria: Israeli planes target military position in Quneitra province May 27

Syria Alerte de sécurité

Israeli warplanes target Syrian military position near Khan Arnabeh (Quneitra province) May 27; similar Israeli attacks targeting Syrian military sites possible over near term

TIMEFRAME expected from 27/5/2019, 12h00 until 28/5/2019, 11h59 (Asia/Damascus). COUNTRY/REGION Khan Arnabeh

Israeli warplanes targeted a Syrian military position near Khan Arnabeh (Quneitra province) on Monday, May 27. According to the Israeli government, the Syrian military fired a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli Air Force plane as it flew over Israeli territory at approximately 21:00 (local time); the missile failed to hit the warplane. In response, Israel destroyed a Syrian missile platform in Khan Arnabeh, killing at least one soldier.

Similar Israeli attacks targeting Syrian military positions are possible over the near term.

Over the past year and a half, the Israeli military has struck more than 200 targets in Syria, many of which have been arms depots and military facilities allegedly receiving arms and fighters from Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

Due to extremely poor security conditions, Western governments generally advise against all travel to Syria, with some banning travel to the country. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to any travel to Syria.
