Increased limitations on internet activity and search terms are expected, particularly anything that refers to June 4 or 1989, are expected and other security measures may be enacted in the coming days.


Student-led protests in 1989 culminated with a military crackdown on June 4 that resulted in the deaths of an estimated 300 to several thousand people.


Individuals in China are advised to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments, anticipate telecommunication disruptions, and refrain from discussing politically sensitive topics in public or on social media.
